It was a very LONG day: Part 1

This is going to be a pretty long blog entry. Hold on, do the best you can, I'll split it up as best I can.

Since the last entry, I've been really focused on creating very full days for myself. I don't have a car anymore, we sort of can't afford for me to buy a car right now, and in any case I don't really have anywhere useful to be. So, I've been thinking about projects. I'm already on a course to teach myself an entire college-level Calculus textbook this year, but there's a limit to how much math my brain can handle per day.

So my next idea was to repair/refinish my wife's cedar blanket chest. She's had it since she was a little kid, and it was already 100+ years old when her grandfather fixed it up for her. Then I thought that this would be a great time to go ahead and repair/restore/re-cover my 22 year old amplifier. After all, the tools are the same, as long as I'm working with wood I should work with all the wood.

Plus I need a pair of shoes to walk in, since I've been trying to exercise more since I've moved here, with a little bit of success on that front.

At the same time, I've really needed some time out of the house. The cabin fever has been bad enough, and then when you add in my menagerie of neurotic pets, I've been pretty close to the edge. The one cat pisses on the counter, another on pukes up random crap, the dog whines and barks and shits in the house a couple of times a week, another cat wants to lick my hand while I'm typing, and office cat isn't quite adjusted yet.

Today was going to be the day. It is payday, I have a couple of things to shop for to work on future activities, and I really want to be out of the house anyway. Of course it means I have to drive my wife to work first, but no biggie.

And then the insomnia kicked in.

This site, Paul's Online Math Notes, helped me out quite a bit with the calc 1 and 2 classes I took recently. Our textbook was terrible when it came to explaining concepts, at least from my perspective. I'm more of a narrative person, the text explained everything in math-ese. Good Luck!

P.S. Followed the link to your blog from your posts over at Freethough Blogs out of curiosity. I often find myself nodding along when I read your contributions there. :-)

Hey tajparis! Welcome to the blog. And thanks for the link... I think I saw it a bunch of years ago, but I'd never have found it again on my own!
